One of the most gruesome events in history, the "Final Solution" involved the systematic murder of millions of unwanted people in the German empire, including six million Jews. Many people looking back on this event wonder if the average German citizen knew that there government was killing all these people, and if they would have cared.
Deceiving the public
This website is credible as it is written by a museum in Washington D.C. about the Holocaust, and they are experts on all things Holocaust. http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007822
This article about German Propaganda displays the way the German government inhibited information from the German population about the holocaust. They describe that they did share that they put many Jews to work, but never described the horror and discipline that the Germans gave them during this work. They, in fact, greatly overstated any positive part, and even made up a few positive aspects, of how they treated the Jews. They gave many excuses for sending Jews to ghettos and camps to the public, including stating that Jews spread disease. They even had Jews pretty up the Ghetto for the Red Cross examination.
What did most germans know about nazi concentration camps
This website is viable because it is written by a teacher of history and has many citations at the bottom. However, though all facts stated are supported by thorough research and past knowledge, the site is under .com, and has a very opinionated view on the topic. http://phdast7.hubpages.com/hub/What-Did-Average-germans-Know-Concentration-Camps
This article defends the idea that Germans knew about the concentration camps. It gives the standpoint of many credible people, such as Konnilyn Feig, Willard Ward, and Arthur L., who either experienced the time of the camps or did great research about the camps. These people argued that the concentration camps were to big to hide; they required millions of germans to participate, and could not be hidden. In fact, one argued that the knowledge of these camps might have been what Germany wanted, as it gave fear of disobeying Hitler to the public. The author also included reports of American Invaders claiming that the Germans must have known, but are denying it.
Hitler's silent parters
This is a section of a very credible book. http://www.nytimes.com/books/00/02/20/reviews/000220.20gewent.html
This section argues that certain citizens of Germany were very responsible for the Holocaust. The author points out many large statistics about the Holocaust. However, the author also brings up the point that the people might have not know about all the horrors until very late in the war.
